Meet Our 2023 Surf Staff - Spyder & Aleah

We are stoked to introduce you to our new surf instructors for the 2023 Summer season. Aqualand Surfside has the BEST location with the best spot to learn, play and enjoy all the ocean has to offer in a safe environment. We are proud to be partnered with the City of Seal Beach Recreation Department to provide the best surf camp in the area - especially for beginners. We can surf from 8am-1pm with NO BLACKBALL which means, when it's good, we surf! When it's choppy, we do fun and fitness with our rad instructors.

We have restructured our surf camp in order to service more surf passes while keeping our instructor to student ratio low. Surf camp will be operating right next to Seal Training where we will also have two adults with lifeguard and surf experience. We will still have many of our teen instructors and interns helping and now each small “surf pod” will be led by one of our adult surf instructors. Our staff and interns are CPR and basic life saving certified.

Here they are!

Mick, who goes by Spyder, was named after a famous Alpine skier but he prefers his snow thawed. Spyder spends at least 90% of his day in the water, whether it's surfing at first light or swimming endless laps at his local pool. He played Varsity waterpolo in high school and loves teaching groms to find their stoke and passion for the ocean, with an emphasis on water confidence and water safety. He also teaches swim lessons and leads a mean game of dodge ball.

Aleah has been around the ocean her whole life but started surfing at the age of 10. Once she reached high school, she joined the Woodrow Wilson surf team and became a counselor at a surf camp over the summer. She attended UC Santa Cruz where she got a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology and was part of the surf team for 4 years. Aleah has experience teaching swim and surf and is very patient with young children. We look forward to her contributing valuable science info to our jetty walks!
