Aqualand Surf Camp Vibes

The Nuts and Bolts of Aqualand Surf Vibes and Instruction at surfside Anderson Street

At Aqualand, we approach surfing like we would any other sport. We build a foundation of the balance, endurance, flexibility and physical skills needed to get out in the surf. We also know that fostering a love of fun and respect for the water is a crucial part of learning to surf.

Learning how to surf takes time, so multiple days at surf camp brings a great opportunity to jump start your child's surfing career. Hanging out with the Aqualand crew at Surfside will be something they will never forget. Our surf staff is top notch! They each bring their own unique style and share our love for the freedom that surf independence brings.

“Surfing is hard! It takes strength, endurance, and bravery to get out there and go for it again and again. If you are not having fun and supported by a group, it can be even harder. Our staff to camper ratio helps kids feel safe, confident and skilled to become happy surfers and healthy human beings. The Aqualand vibe fosters community and friendships that last beyond camp." - Matty

A typical day at surf camp starts with brief dry land instruction and setting individual goals for the day. For example, the first day's goals for each surfer might range from wanting to stand up on a wave to executing a good bottom turn then carry speed down the line. Surfing with a group is special because whether kids are just starting out or approaching shred-master, the sport is individual and no one is "left behind". Each camper can learn at their own pace and instructors adjust based on individual needs.

Setting an individual goal with the group is important because it helps the staff and fellow campers know how to support our campers. Hearing the group yell in celebration as someone catches their first wave is priceless! This familial vibe is what makes Aqualand so special and sets us apart. We hire surf instructors who share this good nature and enthusiasm for campers' surfing success and family vibe.

What about down time? Snacks? Sunscreen?

Yes, there will be time for snacks and sunscreen reapplication! Please send your camper with plenty of water and a lunch. Let us know of any allergies because we are known to show up with donuts and hot chocolate. Please bring your preferred sunscreen as well and we will have back up just in case.

When needed, we have an instructor on dry land to hang with the kids in need of a break, and in the rare event that conditions are too rough or the waves die completely, our instructors will have it covered. Our staff pulls from a list of Matty's lesson plans that continue to build on the foundations of surfing and watermen fitness on dry land. Some of these are: obstacle course, sand dune surfing, run swim run, beach volleyball among other fun activities. Your child will stay active and return home, salty and spent (in a good way!)

WE CAN'T WAIT TO SURF WITH YOU!
